The Tempest – The Wild Fairytale about Forgiveness
Theatro Piccolo on Prospero’s trail: Expelled by his brother Antonio, Prospero, together with his daughter Miranda, strands on his island of rage and dreams. From here he tries to play a prank of a special kind on his brother. Prospero conquers the island with his magic, and from now on its mighty ghosts obey him alone. A wonderful starting point for a stormy prank! And then, isn’t it his brother, of all people, who glides by in his royal sailing ship? Just you wait! It crackles and rustles, it scurries and grunts, when Caliban, the musty earth spirit, lurks in the corner. It whistles and blusters, it whirls and howls, when Ariel, the air spirit, raises a storm at Prospero’s demand! Goose bumps alert! And it trembles and shivers, it stumbles and whispers, when Theatro Piccolo fights its way through the magniloquent thicket of William Shakespeare’s dream island. And what about Miranda? She falls in love with a prince. There we go!
With a healthy dose of humor and the appropriate respect, Shakespeare’s original piece is adapted into figure and object theater for young people. Captivating songs and a lot of live music create a bridge between the ancient classic and the fresh present. Cheeky, articulate, funny, and full of the wild power and sensitive poetry of a great master. “We are such stuff as dreams are made on!” So look out and start dreaming!
